Our first day we headed from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=d&amp;source=s_d&amp;saddr=calle+san+martin,+55,+san+sebastian&amp;daddr=42.607685,-0.227966+to:ainsa&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=FfzwlAIdJq3h_ylDiGjEVKVRDTFusXlo8yMwFg%3B%3BFcQ1hwId3T0CACkRoy5_QPGnEjFQps4IZYwBBA&amp;mra=dpe&amp;mrcr=0&amp;mrsp=1&amp;sz=9&amp;via=1&amp;sll=42.607685,-0.527344&amp;sspn=1.150213,2.241211&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=42.609706,-0.527344&amp;spn=4.600299,8.964844&amp;z=7\">from San Sebasti\u00e1n\u200e\u00a0to A\u00ednsa<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A%C3%ADnsa\">A\u00ednsa<\/a> is a small town in the center of the Spanish Pyrenees which has an old quarter that dates back about 1000 years. It was incredibly charming, cute, and quiet, plus served as a great base for exploration of the Pyrenees. \u00a0We stayed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lossietereyes.com\/\">a little hotel<\/a> built into the walls of the old city which was\u00a0restored a few years ago in a style we loved, perfectly\u00a0blending clean contemporary glass, steel and wood within its centuries-old stone structure. We spent a day\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=d&amp;source=s_d&amp;saddr=42.417437,0.138531&amp;daddr=A-135+to:D431+to:fanlo+to:Plaza+Mayor&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=%3BFcrGigIdQh7__w%3BFSpAjgIdGPv5_w%3BFWvTiQIdQ63__yl1MT_wtP9XDTE-CeER_J5FNw%3BFUo9hwIdLR0CAA&amp;mra=dme&amp;mrcr=0&amp;mrsp=0&amp;sz=16&amp;sll=42.414681,0.141921&amp;sspn=0.009014,0.017509&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=42.656182,0.045319&amp;spn=0.574664,1.120605&amp;z=10\">driving around the sights of the local Pyrenees<\/a>, including to the beautiful Spanish\u00a0<a title=\"es:Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ordesa_y_Monte_Perdido_National_Park\">Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido<\/a>,\u00a0up to the French border at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Col_du_Pourtalet\">Col du Pourtalet<\/a> (one of the classic mountain passes of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tour_de_France\">Tour de France<\/a>), and back to A\u00ednsa\u00a0through a far more narrow, windy, and adventurous road than we had planned. \u00a0After two lovely nights in A\u00ednsa, we drove\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=d&amp;source=s_d&amp;saddr=Ainsa,+Spain&amp;daddr=42.067136,0.210114+to:C-1412b+to:andorra+to:Carrer+de+Josep+Anselm+Clav%C3%A9,+7,+08002+Barcelona,+Catalonia,+Spain&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=FcQ1hwId3T0CACkRoy5_QPGnEjFQps4IZYwBBA%3B%3BFZKVgAIdjP0RAA%3BFUU0iQIdEnAYACmV8J6YLvWlEjGSf-p41z7JBw%3BFVhddwId-TohACmTAlTpVqKkEjElU65CNdayqg&amp;mra=dpe&amp;mrcr=0&amp;mrsp=1&amp;sz=11&amp;via=1,2&amp;sll=42.044704,0.396881&amp;sspn=0.290142,0.560303&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=41.849105,1.263428&amp;spn=2.328175,6.575317&amp;z=8\">from A\u00ednsa to Barcelona<\/a> thru\u00a0the little country of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andorra\">Andorra<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the picture of the view through our bedroom window in A\u00ednsa\u00a0for a slideshow including the old city, throwing snowballs atop the Col du Pourtalet, driving through the Pyrenees including on some small roads shared with lots of cows, our GPS as we crossed the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prime_Meridian\">prime meridian<\/a>, and a detail I particularly liked at our hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"toggleborder\" title=\"slideshow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22311334@N00\/sets\/72157623917975134\/show\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"centered\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4009\/4546104533_b67df6d6cc_m.jpg?resize=160%2C240\" alt=\"The Pyrenees from our hotel room in Ainsa\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After San Sebasti\u00e1n\u00a0we had a break from the big cities with a roadtrip through the Pyrenees.
