Thanks to the girls’ babysitter Nora reaching the end of her trampoline years, we now have a new toy in our driveway.

Hiking at Costanoa on the California Coast
Claire’s first bike ride
Claire’s been riding her bike, with training wheels, for a while now. Two weeks ago, she saw her next door neighbor and kindergarten classmate ride to school without training wheels. Claire got determined, and said she wanted to ride her bike to first grade this Fall “like a big kid” and would ride “every day for a half an hour” to get ready. I took the pedals off a hand-me-down “big girl bike” about 10 days ago to turn it into a “balance bike.” She scooted up and down the block with Katherine or me most days. Yesterday she asked me to put the pedals back on. Earlier tonight she hit her goal three months ahead of schedule! Click here for a video:
By the way, Katherine is on a trip to Russia right now and Claire wants to keep this a “secret” so she can surprise Mommy with her new biking skills. Don’t tell! 🙂
Mexico 2013
We headed down to Mexico with family in March. We had a great time staying at a fancy hotel with lots swimming pools, right on the beach. Highlights included sandcastle building, lots of swimming, whale watching excursions on two different boats, mani-pedis for Claire, Juliet and their three cousins at the spa, my brother-in-law Abbas’s birthday party, and even seeing a live turtle on the beach. And yes, in case you’re wondering, Juliet and Claire did have donuts and Froot Loops for breakfast every morning. Here are some of our favorite pictures.
Happy Easter!
Yosemite 2013
We headed up to Yosemite in February to enjoy some winter snow play. We stayed at the Tenaya Lodge, which is just outside the southern entrance to the park. Highlights included skiing at Badger Pass, sledding, snowman building, and ice skating at the hotel. Here are some of our favorite pictures from the weekend!
Juliet’s 4th Birthday
Juliet turned four in February and we celebrated in the usual way…. cupcakes and a bouncy house in the backyard! It worked out that the best day for the party was Superbowl Sunday, so we had a football themed party with chili, inflatable footballs, and the game playing in the living room. See below for all our pictures, including a fun one of Juliet telling her friend Jasper not to touch the cupcake she wanted, and a few shots at the end of the jewelry box from Grandma Judy.
Merry Christmas 2012
Pre-holiday treat
As a quick pre-holiday treat, here is a video of Claire’s lengthy performance in a local production of the Nutcracker earlier this month. She’s the one running with her arms straight out holding the candle and ends up in the back row, just to the right of center.
