Easter 2011

For Easter this year we participated in some of our favorite rituals, including an Easter Egg hunt with friends in a nearby park, egg decorating, baskets and homemade blueberry muffins on Easter morning, and then brunch out at a nice restaurant on the coast in Half Moon Bay, all with Grandma Judy along for the weekend. Easter in Madrid

We’ve just started a family vacation to Spain, celebrating Easter in Madrid.  Our trip has gotten off to a fine start, with long but undramatic flights and a free humongous room at a fancy hotel (thanks to points from all my business travel) with a view out the window of the beautiful Fountain of Neptune.  The weather today was warm and sunny and we walked all afternoon, joining lots of families at Madrid’s 500 year-old Sunday market, El Rastro, and enjoying lunch on the Plaza Mayor.  Three fun notes:

  • We have so much stuff for the girls that we needed to take two taxis last night from the airport to our hotel (embarrassing!)
  • After lunch on Plaza Mayor, Juliet for the first time walked a full ten steps from Katherine to me
  • We got a pleasant surprise at dinner out tonight:  a “half bottle” of wine, at least in this restaurant, is a half liter of wine so is what we would consider two-thirds of a bottle!

Click on picture below for a few slides from today, plus bonus pictures including an Easter Egg hunt, egg decorating (and eating), Juliet discovering the joys of toilet paper, and taking our new family wagon to a neighborhood birthday party.

Easter 2009

We had a fun Easter two weekends ago, including a very important milestone: Claire’s first Easter Egg Hunt. We headed to our local town park for the occasion, a half-day celebration hosted by our local fire department. It was a zoo, with 80 or 90 kids under two-years old running around and their parents trying to take pictures. But it was fun, and we ran into lots of people we knew. We then headed up to San Francisco for a tasty Easter Dinner prepared by our friends John and Bam Toth (with their daughter Tori for Claire to play with). As usual Bam cooked us a phenomenal meal, made all the more special by Easter lamb cake, which is about what it sounds: a cake in the shape of a lamb. Other highlights included Juliet sleeping soundly through the entire dinner. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Easter

To celebrate Easter, we pulled together some pictures from the past few weeks, including visiting our friends Barbara and James (plus Christopher), Claire’s first bath in a real bathtub, and seeing our friends Bam and John Toth (plus little Tori) for Easter dinner where Claire got to wear a pretty dress her Nana gave her.
