Early summer 2010

We’ve fallen behind this summer so will make it up in two posts with pictures galore and even a few videos.

First off, here’s a slideshow from the early summer including Claire falling asleep on the couch trying to adapt to life without afternoon naps, berry picking at nearby Webb Ranch, visiting with our friends the Farrells for Glenn’s birthday and for my godson Harrison’s first lemonade/snack stand, our town’s July 4th parade, hiking in the redwoods at Wunderlich Park, and a movie night for Harrison and our girls.  There’s a few videos of Juliet, too, one hiking and another munching on pizza.  Finally, we’ve got pictures of the girls’ first car camping trip which we took with the Toths in a nearby state park. It was hot, dusty, and sleepless, a mild disaster so probably average for a first outing with kids. Click on the berry picking picture for a slideshow.

Also, we’ve added a few more pictures and videos to the post on Claire’s 3rd birthday party including this one of the various efforts to keep her candle lit long enough for her to blow it out.

May visits with friends

We spent the month of May unpacking, recovering from our trip to Spain by visiting with friends at and near home.  Highlights included visits from Harrison (my godson and our new neighbor in Menlo Park), playing around the house including playdates with Claire’s friends Anna and Logan, tidepooling near Half Moon Bay with Katherine’s moms group and our good friends the Toths.  Finally, a few pictures of Juliet’s first haircut at home in her high chair (a much simpler affair than Claire’s first haircut at the fancy children’s salon).  For a slideshow, click on picture of Harrison in our backyard pulling a wagon filled with Claire and Juliet.

Easter 2009

We had a fun Easter two weekends ago, including a very important milestone: Claire’s first Easter Egg Hunt. We headed to our local town park for the occasion, a half-day celebration hosted by our local fire department. It was a zoo, with 80 or 90 kids under two-years old running around and their parents trying to take pictures. But it was fun, and we ran into lots of people we knew. We then headed up to San Francisco for a tasty Easter Dinner prepared by our friends John and Bam Toth (with their daughter Tori for Claire to play with). As usual Bam cooked us a phenomenal meal, made all the more special by Easter lamb cake, which is about what it sounds: a cake in the shape of a lamb. Other highlights included Juliet sleeping soundly through the entire dinner. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Moxibustion

We’re counting down the days and busily preparing for baby #2’s arrival, reconfiguring the house for two kids and arranging alternating visits from Grandma Judy and Aunt Mona. Katherine’s latest ultrasound showed that our soon-to-be daughter is in the breech position which may add some complexity. We’re looking into a variety of methods in case she doesn’t turn around on her own. First up is an Eastern medicine technique called moxibustion, which combines a smoking mugwort herb with acupuncture at just the right spot on the side of Katherine’s little toe. Our obstetrician mentioned it and Stu loves saying the word so we had to try it. Our friend Deanna recommended an acupuncturist in San Francisco so we’ll give it a go this week. If that doesn’t work, our obstetrician will try manually rotating the baby (a.k.a. version) next week. And if she’s still breech then, it’ll be a c-section in early February.

Of course, we’ve also got recent pictures. Click below for some shots of Deanna, John and their lovely 7-month old daughter Marlow visiting us for dinner and a bath last night.

Halloween 2008

Claire was a strawberry fairy for Halloween this year. We had a few fun visits with friends to the local pumpkin patch, where Claire was less than enthusiastic about her first pony ride. We also enjoyed a fun pumpkin carving party with our friends John, Bam and Tori Toth. Finally, the big day itself with two rounds of trick or treating, the first with our friends the Klugmans and their twins at the local Mall and the second around our neighbhorhood, with Claire enjoying her first lollipop. Easter

To celebrate Easter, we pulled together some pictures from the past few weeks, including visiting our friends Barbara and James (plus Christopher), Claire’s first bath in a real bathtub, and seeing our friends Bam and John Toth (plus little Tori) for Easter dinner where Claire got to wear a pretty dress her Nana gave her. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Fun

We’ve had a lot of fun with Claire over the past few weeks and have pictures here of Claire’s first ride in a grocery cart, her first balloon, a visit to our neighborhood park, visits from our friends Kaya and Kelley and their son Thaylo, and visits from Dave Ko and our friends John and Bam with their daughter Tori. Backcountry Baby

Last weekend we took Claire on her first outdoor adventure, a long weekend in the Sierras with a snowshoe through the beautiful scenery around Lake Alpine near Ebbett’s Pass. She seemed to enjoy it, though admittedly spent most of her time napping. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Also included is a grab bag of pictures from the holidays, including visits with friends John & Bam (with their daughter Tori), Kaya & Kelly (with their son Thaylo), neighbors Jen and Corey (with Cormack and Maren), Barbara and James (and Christopher), and Julie, plus a shot from during our power outage. Click the ‘i’ in the center of the slideshow photos to see descriptions of each.
