Happy Birthday!

We celebrated Katherine’s birthday Sunday with lots of anticipation around our new arrival. There’s no sign yet of spontaneous rotation, so we remain on track for a c-section Thursday morning. In the meantime, we’re getting the new baby’s room set up, clearing to-do lists ahead of her arrival, thinking about names, charging camera batteries, and enjoying a final few minutes alone with Claire. Aunt Mona just left after an incredibly helpful five-day visit when she, among other things, taught us some tricks for homemade pizza, put together the new baby’s Ikea dresser which came in approximately 42,000 pieces, and baked Katherine a chocolate-with-cream-cheese-frosting birthday cake complete with 38 candles. Grandma Judy arrives tomorrow. We’ll post updates as we have them, so check back Thursday.

In the meantime, here are a few pictures to whet your appetite, starting off with a visit last weekend to see our friends Kaya/Kelley and their son Thaylo and ending with the only naked belly shot from today’s backyard photo shoot that Katherine would let me publish. Fun

We’ve had a lot of fun with Claire over the past few weeks and have pictures here of Claire’s first ride in a grocery cart, her first balloon, a visit to our neighborhood park, visits from our friends Kaya and Kelley and their son Thaylo, and visits from Dave Ko and our friends John and Bam with their daughter Tori. Backcountry Baby

Last weekend we took Claire on her first outdoor adventure, a long weekend in the Sierras with a snowshoe through the beautiful scenery around Lake Alpine near Ebbett’s Pass. She seemed to enjoy it, though admittedly spent most of her time napping. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Also included is a grab bag of pictures from the holidays, including visits with friends John & Bam (with their daughter Tori), Kaya & Kelly (with their son Thaylo), neighbors Jen and Corey (with Cormack and Maren), Barbara and James (and Christopher), and Julie, plus a shot from during our power outage. Click the ‘i’ in the center of the slideshow photos to see descriptions of each.

Gone fishin'

Thanks to a generous Katherine who agreed to manage Claire solo, I took a quick fishing trip over the weekend to the Northern California mountains. Alex Siegel (who flew in from Chicago for the occasion), Kaya Westling, and Joe Tou (who was fly fishing for the first time) came along and we fished both Deer Creek near Mt. Lassen and Putah Creek near Lake Berryessa. At the end of the trip, Alex, Kaya, and Kelley (Kaya’s 7-months pregnant wife) came over to our house for dinner and to meet Claire.
