We spent Labor Day weekend this year in Jackson, Wyoming, visiting our friends the Revills who moved there from the Bay Area this summer. We had a great time with Joel and Kristin and their children Anna and Sam. The Stricklins joined us as well, bringing John, Deanna and their children Marlow plus the twins Liam and Jacqueline. With six children under five years old, and Anna playing den mother at eight years old, it was quite a crazy weekend. Highlights included Juliet and Claire watching movies on an iPad during our drive to Jackson, a bathtub full of kids, playing in the yard, hiking along the Snake River, the kids playing dress-up, roasting s’mores, and long dinners for the adults late into the evening. Sonoma weekend
A few weekends ago we headed up to Sonoma with our friends John and Deanna for a relaxing weekend at the the house of a friend of theirs in the warm sun of the wine country. With three kids under two, we didn’t get much wine tasting in but did still have some fun. Highlights included Claire learning to slide down the stairs on her bottom, Deanna making homemade cinnamon rolls (much to Claire’s fascination), and some sunbathing. Also included are some pictures of Claire and me at her swimming lesson, Juliet lounging around the house, and Claire cooking in her new red play kitchen. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.
Nana and Poppa visit
My parents — Nana and Poppa to the girls — wrapped up a fun nine-day visit last week. Poppa took Claire for lots of walks around the neighborhood and to the swings at our local park, while Nana was both soother-in-chief for Juliet (cuddling and cooing non-stop) and chef-in-residence for the rest of us, making countless tasty meals. It was particularly kind of them to stay for a few extra days and help Katherine after I had to leave town on a Wikipedia trip. They also had the chance to catch up with our friends John, Deanna and little Marlow who came by for a quick visit. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.
Moxibustion
We’re counting down the days and busily preparing for baby #2’s arrival, reconfiguring the house for two kids and arranging alternating visits from Grandma Judy and Aunt Mona. Katherine’s latest ultrasound showed that our soon-to-be daughter is in the breech position which may add some complexity. We’re looking into a variety of methods in case she doesn’t turn around on her own. First up is an Eastern medicine technique called moxibustion, which combines a smoking mugwort herb with acupuncture at just the right spot on the side of Katherine’s little toe. Our obstetrician mentioned it and Stu loves saying the word so we had to try it. Our friend Deanna recommended an acupuncturist in San Francisco so we’ll give it a go this week. If that doesn’t work, our obstetrician will try manually rotating the baby (a.k.a. version) next week. And if she’s still breech then, it’ll be a c-section in early February.
Of course, we’ve also got recent pictures. Click below for some shots of Deanna, John and their lovely 7-month old daughter Marlow visiting us for dinner and a bath last night.
Beach weekend
We took a quick long weekend over Columbus Day to the Sonoma County coast, renting a house in a small town called Jenner where the Russian River meets the Pacific. Our friends John and Deanna brought their 4-month old daughter Marlow to stay with us, and we were all lucky to have some unusually clear and warm Northern California coastal weather. Highlights included walking on the bluffs above Bodega Bay (featured in Hitchcock’s The Birds), hiking the Coast Vista Trail, Claire sipping her first (decaf) latte, playing on the beach, and relaxing around our house. Father's Day
We celebrated our first Father’s day with a trip to see our friends John and Deanna, whose daughter Marlow was born just six days earlier. We also have some fun pictures of Claire showing off her 96th percentile in height, visiting the park with her friend Lauren, and diving into a big dish of Cheerios at another friend’s birthday party. Claire’s latest trick is crawling, which she is doing enthusiastically. Click on the triangle play button below for a video showing both her newfound mobility and her curiosity about cameras.
Eight months!
Claire turns eight months old tomorrow so we thought we’d pull together some of our favorite pictures from the past few weeks. She is now eating solid foods (or at least mushy baby food) two to three times a day, sitting up on her own, and even teetering on two feet when she has some support. We’re convinced she is starting to say “mama” and “dada”. We’ve had some fun visits, including a regular brunch with friends Deanna & John and Kristin & Joel (whose daughter Anna is 4-years old and son Sam is 1-week younger than Claire). We also have some pictures from when Mona visited and she and I went to a fancy party at one of her wineries. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.
Old friends
We had brunch over the weekend with our old friends Deanna & John and Kristin & Joel. It had been a long time since we’d gotten together as a group and we had some news to celebrate and an awful lot of catching up to do. Also, Claire got to spend more time with Kristin & Joel’s son Sam who is just one week younger than she is. Click on the photo of the two of them below for a slideshow.
