Labor Day in Wyoming

We spent Labor Day weekend this year in Jackson, Wyoming, visiting our friends the Revills who moved there from the Bay Area this summer. We had a great time with Joel and Kristin and their children Anna and Sam. The Stricklins joined us as well, bringing John, Deanna and their children Marlow plus the twins Liam and Jacqueline. With six children under five years old, and Anna playing den mother at eight years old, it was quite a crazy weekend. Highlights included Juliet and Claire watching movies on an iPad during our drive to Jackson, a bathtub full of kids, playing in the yard, hiking along the Snake River, the kids playing dress-up, roasting s’mores, and long dinners for the adults late into the evening. Fall 2010 catchup

We had a busy few months and fell behind on pictures so here’s some to catch up, including the girls (mostly Claire) helping to make muffins one Sunday morning, testing out our new bike trailer, visiting our friend Carrie’s horse Sunny up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Juliet’s first play-doh experience, going to the beach with our friends the Revills and watching Claire and Anna build sandcastles, a visit from Judy around my birthday, the girls and their dolls, and of course the usual pics of eating and one of iPhone-powered potty time.

The girls are both talking a lot now so to give a sense of the Shakespearean dialogue we’ll start to sprinkle in some quotes.  Today, we’ve got two from Claire.  The first she said right after I started work:

Daddy started a new job, just like Curious George?

The second she said to Katherine one morning right after I left for the office:

I want mommy to go to work and daddy stay home and make grilled cheese.

Eight months!

Claire turns eight months old tomorrow so we thought we’d pull together some of our favorite pictures from the past few weeks. She is now eating solid foods (or at least mushy baby food) two to three times a day, sitting up on her own, and even teetering on two feet when she has some support. We’re convinced she is starting to say “mama” and “dada”. We’ve had some fun visits, including a regular brunch with friends Deanna & John and Kristin & Joel (whose daughter Anna is 4-years old and son Sam is 1-week younger than Claire). We also have some pictures from when Mona visited and she and I went to a fancy party at one of her wineries. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

Old friends

We had brunch over the weekend with our old friends Deanna & John and Kristin & Joel. It had been a long time since we’d gotten together as a group and we had some news to celebrate and an awful lot of catching up to do. Also, Claire got to spend more time with Kristin & Joel’s son Sam who is just one week younger than she is. Click on the photo of the two of them below for a slideshow.

Santa Cruz

We spent last weekend on the California coast, catching up with Kristin and Joel Revill and staying on a beautiful beach between Santa Cruz and Monterey. With the Revills (including Anna, 4, and Sam, 1 week younger than Claire), as well as their friends Bob and Colleen (and son Matthew), it was a fun family weekend of playing on the beach and visiting the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Bob, Joel and I even had a chance to do a triathlon (with Claire running across the finish line with me). Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

SF Roadtrip

Last Saturday we took our first road trip as parents, bundling Claire and at least 23 bags of critical essentials into the car and leaving at the crack of 11am for our old stomping grounds in San Francisco. Among other milestones, Claire enjoyed her first drive-thru lunch (though not the In-N-Out Burger her parents had), her first view of the Golden Gate Bridge on a walk at Crissy Field, and meeting her first cousins once-removed, Will and Kim (pictured below). We ended the trip with a dinner from the casual (and parent-friendly) pizzeria sibling of Delfina, one of our favorite restaurants in the city, and some ice cream dessert at the new but already locally famous Bi-Rite Creamery. All in all a fun day!

We’ve also included bonus pictures of Claire visiting her friend Sam (the new baby of our friends Joel and Kristin who is one week younger than Claire) and a few of Claire around the house. Click here or on the photo below for a slideshow.
