Sayulita 2012

We headed down to Mexico in early March for a lovely week with Grandma Judy on the beach in a small town called Sayulita. With a non-stop flight, only a 2-hour time change, a great house to rent, and lots of fun restaurants a 10-minute walk away, it was just about perfect. Click on the picture of Claire and Juliet on the beach for a slideshow, including lots of playtime on the beach, walking along the promenade in Puerto Vallarta (about an hour away), eating pasta, playing in the pools, and enjoying rather large margaritas. Below the slideshow is a picture from my new Lytro camera, a cool new toy that allows you to click on different parts of the image and change the focus. Click on Juliet or the mountains in the background and try it!

Fall 2011 catch-up

In the Fall, adventures included fun in our yard with an inflatable whale-shaped kiddie pool, a visit from Grandma Judy, trips to the beach, school pictures, a visit to a local goat farm and dairy where Claire enjoyed eating freshly made goat cheese, a few pictures from Claire’s weekend-long visit to see her friend Maya in San Diego, and a Thanksgiving visit from our friends the Toths. Fall 2010 catchup

We had a busy few months and fell behind on pictures so here’s some to catch up, including the girls (mostly Claire) helping to make muffins one Sunday morning, testing out our new bike trailer, visiting our friend Carrie’s horse Sunny up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Juliet’s first play-doh experience, going to the beach with our friends the Revills and watching Claire and Anna build sandcastles, a visit from Judy around my birthday, the girls and their dolls, and of course the usual pics of eating and one of iPhone-powered potty time.

The girls are both talking a lot now so to give a sense of the Shakespearean dialogue we’ll start to sprinkle in some quotes.  Today, we’ve got two from Claire.  The first she said right after I started work:

Daddy started a new job, just like Curious George?

The second she said to Katherine one morning right after I left for the office:

I want mommy to go to work and daddy stay home and make grilled cheese.

Late summer 2010

Here’s part two of our Summer 2010 catchup. We’ve got pictures of Claire’s first face painting (a butterfly that matched her dress), a trip to a local kids zoo and amusement park called Happy Hollow where Claire rode her first roller-coaster, a bike ride to a nearby playground, a ride on a steam train through the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a pizza picnic dinner during a visit from my parents, playing at home including with a Slip ‘n Slide on the 100 degree day that was our hottest this summer, a visit to a beach in Half Moon Bay, and some eating shots including Juliet’s first (and certainly not last) chocolate ice cream.  Click on the picture of my girls at the beach for a slideshow.

May visits with friends

We spent the month of May unpacking, recovering from our trip to Spain by visiting with friends at and near home.  Highlights included visits from Harrison (my godson and our new neighbor in Menlo Park), playing around the house including playdates with Claire’s friends Anna and Logan, tidepooling near Half Moon Bay with Katherine’s moms group and our good friends the Toths.  Finally, a few pictures of Juliet’s first haircut at home in her high chair (a much simpler affair than Claire’s first haircut at the fancy children’s salon).  For a slideshow, click on picture of Harrison in our backyard pulling a wagon filled with Claire and Juliet.

Cabo San Lucas

We spent the last week of October in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the house of an old boss of mine. Katherine’s mom Judy joined us for a lovely week that included celebrating Judy’s birthday with a hearty feliz cumpleaños and Claire christening Judy as her “go-ma.”  We also enjoyed lots of playtime on the beach and in the pool at our house, family dinners out in the nearby town of San Jose del Cabo, a romantic dinner for two on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, working together on the online New York Times crossword, and grown-up naptimes under the palapa reading and looking out at the ocean. Summer fun (part 2)

Here’s our next set of photos from this summer. We’ve included lots of pictures of the girls together, including Juliet eating her first solid food, both of them sharing a ride in a swing, some fun at the beach and in the swimming pool, plus a shot of Claire trying on Stu’s sneakers. Click on the below picture of Juliet’s first bites (with Claire in the background showing exactly how to spread food all over the face) for a slideshow.

Beach weekend

We took a quick long weekend over Columbus Day to the Sonoma County coast, renting a house in a small town called Jenner where the Russian River meets the Pacific. Our friends John and Deanna brought their 4-month old daughter Marlow to stay with us, and we were all lucky to have some unusually clear and warm Northern California coastal weather.  Highlights included walking on the bluffs above Bodega Bay (featured in Hitchcock’s The Birds), hiking the Coast Vista Trail, Claire sipping her first (decaf) latte, playing on the beach, and relaxing around our house.
