Claire and her friends, while they don’t appear too sure of Santa, are sure they want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

We had a great Thanksgiving in Dallas this year. Katherine’s pregnancy made travel at Christmas iffy so we were lucky to combine two originally separate holiday plans (Thanksgiving with Katherine’s family, Christmas with mine) into one week-long trip to Dallas. Highlights include endless laps up and down the stairs with Claire, visiting Katherine’s Great Aunt Betty (one of the inspirations for Claire’s middle name Elizabeth), Claire’s cousin Susan in a leopard costume, playing with presents under the tree, and a piano duet from Claire and her cousin Will. We just got the class pictures taken at Claire’s daycare in October. If you click on the picture below to see the slideshow (just one other photo), you’ll see that Claire is the only child smiling in the group shot!
Claire was a strawberry fairy for Halloween this year. We had a few fun visits with friends to the local pumpkin patch, where Claire was less than enthusiastic about her first pony ride. We also enjoyed a fun pumpkin carving party with our friends John, Bam and Tori Toth. Finally, the big day itself with two rounds of trick or treating, the first with our friends the Klugmans and their twins at the local Mall and the second around our neighbhorhood, with Claire enjoying her first lollipop. We took a quick long weekend over Columbus Day to the Sonoma County coast, renting a house in a small town called Jenner where the Russian River meets the Pacific. Our friends John and Deanna brought their 4-month old daughter Marlow to stay with us, and we were all lucky to have some unusually clear and warm Northern California coastal weather. Highlights included walking on the bluffs above Bodega Bay (featured in Hitchcock’s The Birds), hiking the Coast Vista Trail, Claire sipping her first (decaf) latte, playing on the beach, and relaxing around our house. Claire is gradually learning to use a spoon. Very gradually. See video below!

We had some warm California weather last weekend so took Claire to the beach for her first real adventure at the ocean. She wasn’t so sure about the cold water or sunscreen, but seemed to love the sun, our beach ball, and chewing on both sand and sandals. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.
For some reason, when Katherine left town she felt the need to give me a detailed list of foods to feed Claire (it might have something to do with my comment a few months ago that I thought Cheerios contain all the nutrients a growing baby needs). It’s a good snapshot of what Claire eats now so I thought I’d share:
| Protein Chicken Meatballs Cheese Yogurt Tofu Cottage cheese Black beans Garbanzo beans Edamame Eggs Avocado |
Carbs Ravioli Alphabet pasta Cheerios Waffles Crumpets Macaroni & cheese Bread Pancakes Potatoes |
Fruits/Veggies Bananas Blueberries Applesauce Strawberries Peas Corn Broccoli florets Snacks Cheese sticks Animal crackers Cheddar bunnies Dried bananas Dried strawberries |
Of course I also have a few pictures to share, a mix of breakfast one morning and visiting the park yesterday. Click on the photo below of Claire enjoying the swing for a slideshow.
Katherine is in Taiwan for a late summer vacation with her friend Chih-Fung (志芳阿姨). Since she wanted to take our point-and-shoot camera with her, I finally had an excuse to purchase an entry-level digital SLR camera. It’s pretty good, so here are some of its first pictures including Claire eating breakfast, playing in the yard, in the bath, enjoying black beans, practicing her walking, and at the local playground with friends.
