1-year checkup

We took Claire for her 12-month checkup today and she is as healthy as can be. At 31.75 inches, she’s outpaced her friends and grown to the 99th percentile in height (up from 96% at 9-months). At 22 lbs, 14 oz, she’s the 76th percentile in weight down from 85th three months ago. So, she’s getting taller and thinner…. obviously she has her mother’s genes!

Colorado visit

We just returned from a week-long visit with Katherine’s dad Jack, his wife Sharon, Katherine’s sister Laura and her family Rob and Will at the YMCA summer family camp in Estes Park, Colorado right next to Rocky Mountain National Park. Jack has been visiting there every summer for decades and Katherine has been visiting since her childhood. We’ve got pictures including Claire getting a birthday present from Will, spending time around the cabin, walking around the Y Camp and hiking around the national park, seeing a deer (or is it an elk?) in front of our cabin, and finally a funny sequence in which Claire eagerly enjoys her first spongy white bread, discovers just how dry it is, and then guzzles water from her sippy cup to help wash it down. Father's Day

We celebrated our first Father’s day with a trip to see our friends John and Deanna, whose daughter Marlow was born just six days earlier. We also have some fun pictures of Claire showing off her 96th percentile in height, visiting the park with her friend Lauren, and diving into a big dish of Cheerios at another friend’s birthday party. Claire’s latest trick is crawling, which she is doing enthusiastically. Click on the triangle play button below for a video showing both her newfound mobility and her curiosity about cameras.

Yosemite

We headed up to Yosemite in early May, renting a house in a section of private land just outside the park called Yosemite West. We spent a long weekend with Katherine’s Austin friend Margaret, her husband Nathan and children Sofia and Zachary, and their friends Becca and Divit and their two boys. We had warm, sunny, clear weather and enjoyed hikes through the redwoods and some spectacular views of Yosemite Valley from Glacier Point. Claire also loved her time in the hot tub, confirming she is a native Californian. Also included is a grab bag of pictures from her Aunt Mona’s visit and of her looking adorable around the house. More peas, please

Claire is energetically eating solid food now and “finger food” has become her preferred meal. Click on the triangle play button below for a video of a recent dinner.

Of course we’ve also got some pictures, including hiking with Grandma Judy on a recent visit, doing the laundry together, and visiting the gardens at Filoli with friends. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.

9-month checkup

We took Claire for her 9-month checkup this morning. At 29.5 inches, she’s an unsurprising 96th percentile in height. At just over 21 pounds, she’s at the 85th percentile in weight. Contrary to our nervous questioning, Dr. Drucker told us Claire is not gaining too much weight, is not teething too late, is not eating too many carrots, is not standing too little, is not drinking too much formula, is not suffering from food allergies, and is not sleeping too much. She also told us Claire is now ready to eat pancakes so when Grandma Judy visits this weekend we might have to make some!

Easter

To celebrate Easter, we pulled together some pictures from the past few weeks, including visiting our friends Barbara and James (plus Christopher), Claire’s first bath in a real bathtub, and seeing our friends Bam and John Toth (plus little Tori) for Easter dinner where Claire got to wear a pretty dress her Nana gave her. Fun

We’ve had a lot of fun with Claire over the past few weeks and have pictures here of Claire’s first ride in a grocery cart, her first balloon, a visit to our neighborhood park, visits from our friends Kaya and Kelley and their son Thaylo, and visits from Dave Ko and our friends John and Bam with their daughter Tori. Eight months!

Claire turns eight months old tomorrow so we thought we’d pull together some of our favorite pictures from the past few weeks. She is now eating solid foods (or at least mushy baby food) two to three times a day, sitting up on her own, and even teetering on two feet when she has some support. We’re convinced she is starting to say “mama” and “dada”. We’ve had some fun visits, including a regular brunch with friends Deanna & John and Kristin & Joel (whose daughter Anna is 4-years old and son Sam is 1-week younger than Claire). We also have some pictures from when Mona visited and she and I went to a fancy party at one of her wineries. Click on the photo below for a slideshow.
